Why Isn’t My Ecobee Fan Turning Off Why Is It Always On?

Published

By

The variety of furnaces that Ecobee has available is very user-friendly, and each one comes with a robust heating system that is capable of adequately warming houses of varying sizes.

Yet, just like any other furnace, Ecobee furnaces are susceptible to a variety of problems. Whether you have a brand-new Ecobee furnace or have been using yours for a long and it won’t switch off, it’s time to identify the source and repair it.

The reason why your Eco bee furnace won’t turn off might be that the fan limit switch isn’t adjusted properly or that it’s broken, or it could be that there are issues with the thermostat.

Address the issue by switching the fan limit switch to the automatic position or by replacing it if it is damaged. Furthermore, check the wiring and batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is operating properly.

This manual is for you if you just can’t manage to get your Eco Bee furnace to switch off no matter what you do. We’ll educate you on why this could be occurring and lead you through the procedures to solve each issue.

Fan Limit Switch has the incorrect configuration applied to it

Let’s begin by setting up the fan limit switch in its default settings. When it is not necessary to run the fan of the furnace, the fan limit switch will turn it off.

The blower fan is the component of your furnace that is accountable for moving air from the furnace to the ductwork that is located throughout your house.

The limit switch has three distinct settings:

On \auto \Off

If the switch is in the on position, the machine will operate continuously. After you are through using the furnace, you will need to manually switch off the fan since this serves as a “manual override” for the operation of the fan.

The fan will cease functioning if the switch is turned to the Off position, which means that warm air will no longer be circulated in your house.

How to Repair

You need to check the fan limit switch if the fan continues to operate even after the furnace has been turned off. If the switch is in the on position, you may want to try moving it to the Auto position instead.

The auto feature guarantees the fan switches off automatically without input from your side. This is a straightforward repair that’ll guarantee your furnace operates as intended.

See also  What Does Outgoing Call Mean?

Nonetheless, check to see that the fan does not already have any other manual overrides set for it. If you notice that the switch is already set to Auto, yet the fan still operates when it shouldn’t, the switch may be broken.

If the fan limit switch on your furnace is broken, moving it from the on position to the Auto position will not make a difference. The fan will not get the signal that is necessary to perform this changeover at this time.

There might be a problem with the wiring of the fan limit switch. There’s also a strong likelihood that it’s malfunctioning

How to Repair

The first thing that needs to be done in this scenario is to figure out if the switch is the source of the issue. To see what occurs, turn the switch such that it is not on.

If the fans continue to run after you’ve altered the settings, you may safely assume that the limit switch is not functioning properly.

The fan limit switch is quite insignificant component of the overall system. Nevertheless, to investigate the inside of your furnace, you will need access to the interior. How to do it:

  • Turn off the furnace in your home.
  • Launch the primary control panel.

Find the switch and examine it to see if any of the wires have become disconnected. If you discover wires that are dangling, you should use the appropriate equipment to secure them to the switch.

Additionally, take note of the locations on both ends where the wires connect. Check to see that the cables are properly secured at these spots as well.

Remove the fan limit switch if no wires are hanging loose that you can see. Examine it to discover whether there are any cracks, marks, or other concerns.

When you have completed all of the troubleshooting steps and determined that the switch is the source of the issue, you should replace it.

If you’re not sure how this procedure works, the video below may walk you through the process of changing the fan limit switch in your furnace:

Issues with the Wiring of The Thermostat

The control board for the main circuit may be found linked to the thermostat. In addition to this, the cables may be found running too many other components of the HVAC system.

When you modify the settings of the furnace, it must transmit a signal for this configuration to the correct spot.

When the fan is turned off, a signal must be sent to the blower motor to tell it to cease operating.

See also  What's Process of Turning Off Someone Else's WIFI Using IP?

As you dial up the temperature, the thermostat sends a signal to the burner, which causes the flame on the burner to become more intense as a result of the signal.

If there is a problem with the wiring of the thermostat, your Eco Bee furnace will not switch off. There is no way for the thermostat to communicate with the heater.

When the furnace has been running for an extended period and the wiring has been damaged as a result, this issue often occurs. While it is possible to turn it off, the furnace won’t react when you do so at the thermostat. You may still turn it off.

How to Repair

To do this repair, you will need to get a reference guide for the model of your furnace and thermostat. You may consult the official Eco bee handbook that was included in the packaging of the gadget.

You may also try searching the internet for a guide using the model number of your device. Make use of the owner’s handbook as a source of information.

It will illustrate the wiring for the thermostat as well as the other components of the HVAC system. The following is what you need to do:

  • Check the cables that are connected to the thermostat after you have opened up the furnace.
  • Check to see if any of the cables are broken or hanging loose. Each of these things has the potential to interfere with the thermostat’s ability to turn off the furnace.

Take note of how the wires are linked. Make use of the reference guide to check that everything is linked to the appropriate components.

The Batteries in the Thermostat Are Weak

You started the winter off by turning on the furnace and letting it run for an extended period. You discover that the furnace does not react to the thermostat when you turn it off, which is frustrating.

A closer inspection of the thermostat reveals that it is not receiving power since none of the LED lights is on, and there seems to be nothing there on the screen.

Check to determine whether the thermostat needs fresh batteries under the current circumstances.

How to Repair

The first order of business is to figure out whether or not your thermostat is powered by batteries. It is possible to take off the front panel to access the battery compartment.

See also  How to Apply Update from ADB: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Open any panels that are secured with screws by turning them anticlockwise. Doing so will probably expose a compartment containing batteries.

The model of the thermostat determines both the precise position of the batteries as well as the kind of batteries.

Take out the worn-out batteries and put a brand-new pair in their place. Make careful you use the same batteries and inspect the old ones to see what brand they are and what voltage they put out.

When the part has been changed, reattach the panel to the thermostat and then reconnect the wires to the device.

Wrong temperature readings from Ecobee

After prolonged usage, the Ecobee thermostat’s display may no longer accurately reflect the room’s temperature. Make sure the thermostat isn’t getting a draught of cold air.

Be sure that cool air is not being blasted from the wall cavity behind the back plate onto the thermostat if you are experiencing this issue.

Raise or lower the thermostat as necessary.

Even if that isn’t the case, you should check the temperature settings first. Under the “Settings” menu, you may adjust the “Offset Temperature Correction” to a value that suits your needs.

You may make a permanent adjustment of up to 10 degrees in the sensitivity variance of the thermostat sensor reading.

Adjust the temperature settings back to normal.

Resetting the thermostat may solve certain problems. To reset everything on your thermostat, go to “Settings,” “Reset,” and “Reset Everything” on the main menu.

Keep in mind that you will need to re-program your thermostat if you ever return it to its original factory settings.

My Ecobee thermostat keeps powering down.

The following should be considered if your Ecobee thermostat keeps shutting off:

  • Thermostat firmware upgrades may need a system reboot to complete the installation. 20–30 minutes is a possible time frame.
  • If you make any modifications to the wires connecting your Ecobee, it may be necessary to restart the device to verify good connectivity.
  • In the event of a power failure, your Ecobee may restart when the electricity is restored.
  • If an Ecobee thermostat’s sensor fails to function properly, the device may need to be reset.

Conclusion

There are a few potential causes for an Ecobee furnace that will not turn off, including issues with the wiring, a tripped fan limit switch, or batteries that are dead in the thermostat.
